Aalborg University Shakespeare Company is a theatre troupe consisting of current and former students at AAU. Every year at Easter, we perform one of Shakespeare’s plays in the original English language at Det Hem’lige Teater. We work hard to create spectacular shows, but more importantly: we have lots of fun along the way!

Aalborg University Shakespeare Company was established in 1993, and (almost) every year since then, we’ve been performing one of Shakespeare’s plays in front of an audience. We are a bunch of different people brought together by a shared enthusiasm for whatever play we’re working on. We’re entirely volunteer-based, and directing, producing, costume-sewing and stage-building are all done by members of the company.

Our philosophy is that you don’t have to be an Oscar-winner to take part; anyone who wants to be on a stage can be on a stage, and anyone who doesn’t want to be on a stage can still help backstage and offstage. A great deal of work goes into making a play happen, but in the end, our main goal is to have fun during the entire process. So if you’re looking for a place to meet new people, a place to stretch your creative wings, or just a good play to watch, AAUSC might just be the place for you.

FAQ

Who can join?

We have no requirements about previous experience with theatre or knowledge about Shakespeare. It’s not even a requirement that you want to act on a stage. The only requirements are:

That you’re at least 18 years old.
That you can understand and speak English.
That you’re able to be there every night where we perform for an audience, most of the final rehearsals two weeks before opening night, and a good chunk of the regular rehearsals before then (NB: this is only a requirement if you want to be on stage).
That you’re willing to contribute not just to the social (and perhaps acting) aspects of the company, but also to the practical stuff like sewing costumes and/or building the stage. You don’t need to know HOW to do these things in advance, you just need to be willing to help out.

How do I join?

Every year around the end of September and/or beginning of October, we have open intro rehearsals where anyone interested can come and hear more about our process and join in if they want to. Stay tuned on our social media to see when the next one is. If you missed the ones for this season, you can write to us at aaushakespeareticket@gmail.com to see what your options are. It’s still possible to join for a few weeks after intro rehearsals, but unfortunately, the options for joining later in the season are limited.
