When the votes were counted for AAU Election 2024, it was clear that the new student representative on the University Board at AAU is Andrea Werner Iversen. She is studying sociology in the sixth semester of the Bachelor's programme and is already involved in political work at AAU.

As chair of the student association SoFiA and a member of both the Study Board for Sociology and Criminology and the SSH Academic Council, Andrea Werner Iversen has extensive knowledge of the university, and is clear about what she wants to work for on the AAU board:

"The most important thing for me is that we students are heard where all the decisions are made. I believe that together we can achieve more than we often imagine, and that motivates me to make a difference. It’s important that we don’t forget how much our voices can mean in the various governing bodies, if we dare to use them," explains Andrea Werner Iversen.

Good physical conditions are crucial for a good study environment

The study environment is also an area that Andrea Werner Iversen wants to improve, and as a student representative on the board, she is automatically part of the Study Environment Council. She will focus on improving the physical environment as more students in recent years have had to deal with densification in the departments that has meant fewer group rooms and classrooms.

"Although the subject isn’t new, good physical conditions are still crucial for a good study environment. So, I will continue to give this issue high priority. We may not be able to promise new buildings, but we must make sure that the square meters we do have are used in the best possible way from a student perspective," says Andrea Werner Iversen.

I am very aware that as a student representative on the board, you represent all students. So, my job is to identify the general challenges we face as a student body.

Team effort secured election victory

Visibility, direct contact with the students and easy-to-understand key issues that resonated with the students' own experiences and needs. These are some of the things Andrea Werner Iversen and her team focused on in order to secure votes in the AAU Elections.

She emphasizes the importance of having a good team behind you when it comes to campaigning. Therefore, she is fully aware that the success of the campaign and her victory are not due to her alone but just as much to those she calls "the world's best volunteers".

Many amazing people contributed, and that has been crucial. A candidate can have as many ideas as they like for the campaign, but without such great help during the four days of voting, it would never have been a success.
